| I know this image is very well-known, but I have been chasing a copy of it for decades. I believe it was taken in Secunderabad, India circa 1871, as Captain Henry Pulleine is in the photograph prior exchanging to the 1st Battalion. | Hi JY,
Absolutely superb quality photo, especially for the time. Probably produced on a glass negative. Now, if I can find one like that of the Officers of the 14th KRH in Hyderbad, a little earlier, including Dartnell and Giles, I will be very pleased.
regards

| Hi JY After all these decades, and many hours, trying to identifying these officers, can you now name them all yet? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Andy |

| Frederic,
Given the date and the location I believe that you are mistaken. The officer to whom you refer, Charles Gordon Creyk, would have been about 15 years of age when the above photograph was taken. He did not joined the 2nd/24th until 1875.

| Morning Lee,
I have a rather old photocopy of The Sphere page.
There is a glaring error in the identifications, Henry Pulleine is mistakenly identified as Gonville Bromhead.
David Jackson has identified those still serving in 1879 on page 70 of Hill of the Sphinx.
Regards,
JY |

JY Bonjour John, Right about the name of the Officer (Creyk). There are comments on this subject (Creyk/ Godwin-Austen) on the website "Soldiers of the Queen" (photographs). Amitié Fred |

| If the photograph was really taken in 1871, I am wrong about the identification of the officer near Banister that I presumed to be Creyk. Amitié Fred |

| Fred, If you have any doubts regarding the date can I suggest a look at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]If you compare the officers who appear in both photographs you will see that there is very little difference in their looks. You will also notice that in the above group photograph that the forage cap numerals are large, and not surmounted by the Sphinx, and therefore pre-dates the introduction of the 1874 Dress Regulations.. By the time Creyk had joined the 24th Regiment those Dress Reg’s would have introduced. JY |

| Bonjour John, I haven't doubt about your analysis. I only wanted to mention that I was wrong about the identification of Creyk. Kind regards Fred |
