| Photos would help. Is it still in .45 caliber or a conversion to .303 carbine? MY probably Middlesex Yeomanry Cavalry with the 2 indicating downgrade to a second class arm. 201 the rack number. In the absence of a photo, I would guess that the rest has something to do with an issue date. |

| Jim, The fact that your Martini Henry is a rifle and not a carbine raises some doubt in my mind concerning issue to the Middlesex Yeomanry Cavalry since I would have expected them to have used carbines.
Is there a possibility that the marking could be MX which represents the Duke of Cambridge's own? Of course, there is always the possibility that the rifle's original butt was damaged and replaced with one which was originally issued to another unit.
I'm afraid that I'm not the best person to advise you concerning the posting of photos. Since the implosion of Photobucket, I only download photos to websites where this can be done directly from my computer. Terry |

| Jim you have a marking I have found common on some of the Nepal Martini's. 2 M.F. (Munster Fusiliers). There are quite a few post and pre Childers markings I have recorded.
Probably the most common are 2 H.L.I (Highland Light Infantry), S.T.F (South Staffs), S.R (Surreys) and O.X. Oxfords.
If you go to my Facebook page, The Martini Henry Society, and go to "files", I have posted excel files of all the pre 1881 Regimental Codes, with their post Childers codes i.e. 24th >> S.W.B, likewise Ive done the same on the pre 1901 Volunteer Yeomanry and Artillery district markings.
The current go to book is The Broad Arrow by Ian Skennerton, however most of the codings are post 1901 and often confuse matters so in my upcoming book due very shortly I do give a comprehensive Martini only related markings section. Neil
