Hi all

The Journal Carmarthen, Friday January 14th 1910

Death of Ex Carmarthen man:- The death has just taken place at Wyberg, Cape Colony, of Captain Arthur Harrington Kyle, brother of Mrs. John White and Mrs Morgan W Davies, Swansea, in his 48th year. He was the son of the late Mr John Kyle, Carmarthen, who was for years Sergeant major in the Carmarthenshire Royal Garrison Artillery (militia) and afterwards instructor of the local company of volunteers. Captain Kyle had an eventful career in South Africa. When a youth, as a despatch rider, he witnessed the battle of Isandlwana. He served as a Trooper in the Bechuanaland Border Police, and eventually he became Captain of his own Troop, serving in the Bechuana Expedition. Afterwards he took part in most stirring scenes of the Transvaal war. He was one of the first white man to go to Malabeleland.
Captain Kyle was of a genial disposition and had the affection and esteem of all who knew of him.

Dubious, he would have been 17 in 1879. Perhaps he saw the stricken field or was one of the burial parties. He's not on any roll of the units in Column no. 3 that I know of.
