Google - Frank Emberton DCM, KIA WWI, may be Francis son.
See London Gazette 1895:
Ordnance Store Corps, The undermentioned Conductors, Ordnance Store Corps to be Quartermasters, with Honourary rank of Lieutenant, dated 10Jul 1895: Francis Emberton, on augmentation.
See: borstal.org.uk
Fort Clerence - Borstal Village
Later came Captain Francis Emberton of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, who served in the Zulu war of 1879,:the Egypt Campaign of 1882-6, the relief of General Gordon, and the South African War.
Captain Francis Emberton became the last governor of the jail, the house was then used for senior officers. |

| Hi All
Yes, thank you. The Lieutenant Francis Emberton in the London Gazette 1895 and the Captain Francis Emberton who was the Governor of Fort Clarence I mentioned, is the same Captain as in Littlehands original post. According to the details within Borstal.org.uk this Captain did not serve in WWI. They may have missed those details or we have a different person to your Major in the post above.
Regards Eddie |

Regards Eddie Hi All Capt Francis Emberton (father of Lt Frank Emberton) returned to South Africa after his stint at Fort Clarence, retired in 1907, was called out of retirement at the outbreak of WWI and served during WWI to retire a second time on 19 November 1919, returning to Durban where he died on 1 May 1934. He, and his wife Estrudes, are buried in The Old Fort Military Cemetery, Durban. |
