| Went along to the new NAM to take a look. There is much more space and it is light and airy. Not sure I like the "themes" approach as much as the old chronological, and it feels like there is more 20th/21st century stuff on display than before - which doesn't suit my interests. But I suspect there is as much AZW material as before, just spread around more. I will post a few pictures starting with this one of the Ulundi painting which, like Fripp's Isandhlwana, you can now get up close and personal to. | Not sure the tunic displayed is pattern worn in South Africa in 1879. |

| An interesting map on display from Lord Chelmsford's private papers held at the NAM. It appears to be based on Mainwaring's original, updated by James (version now in the Royal Archives at Windsor) and updated again possibly for inclusion in the official Narrative. Wonder how Chelmsford ended up with it? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Steve |

| Steve it was this map that started the thread exploring Mainwaring and the 'cover up', if you recall. |

| Thanks Frank. Interesting to read that again, although now that the photos are missing it is quite hard to follow. I will try and replace them if it will let me. I notice that Julian threatened to join in at one stage but was just too busy. Perhaps he will bend his mind to it now.

| Yes this photo issue has tended to downgrade the site as a reference source. That thread in particular revolves around the visual. I still haven't seen the pages I sent through to Pete on Orchard.

| I have managed to replace the maps on the "Gerald French Liar or Not?" thread, at least the ones in my posts. So it makes a bit more sense.
Your Orchard photos are not appearing for some reason. If you want to send them to me I will put them up - I know I have some, but do not know the ones you want to post.

| Yes this photo issue has tended to downgrade the site as a reference source... Is it the case that Pete has removed all the old pb icon's, which is a pity because they were a good reference point, now we don't know what was where...imgur is simplicity to use, it must be for me to get the hang of it!. and it's so quick as well. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I would cheerfully repost any image i have, but where to put them.. this is a mess, solution's anybody?. |
