| Hi Frank . No selling of family members required , nothing there took my fancy , what I've noticed over the last 12 months or so there seems to be a drip system regarding the Isandlwana KIA Medals , they are coming onto the market usually in every major auction . Chas Yep there is a bloody lot of them , I'd say its the most I've seen offered at a single Auction for several years ! . Cheers 90th |

| It looks like DNW are disposing of a collection over two or three of their monthly auctions. July's has a few more in. We are a long way from the mad 6 months when prices rocketed due to a mystery buyer who bought and bid up every medal. Pricing has remained pretty consistent for some time now. |

| Judging from the past monthly auctions, perhaps another 150 lots to show up on DNW before sale time.
I'm still hoping for 1423 W. Gregg to show up. But the price of Isandhlwana casualties! That's why I bought a lottery ticket for tonight. Fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Bill |

| Hi Sam Steele Looking at the previous DNW auction results the prices realised for Zulu War Medals have lowered , although you can expect to pay 800 - 850 GBP's at least for a medal from an Online dealer . I see the Isandlwana Casualty in the last auction was 6K , then again... once you pay Hammer Tax , and the other associated fees etc , it puts it at somewhere near 7,500 K which is about the norm . 90th |

| Thanks 90th.
Here's hoping that a Forum member owns the Gregg medal, and the price would be more reasonable. The 2019 Medals Yearbook lists an Isandhlwana (I still spell it with an "h") casualty at 9,000 to 12,000 pounds. A crazy estimate, I'm sure. As for DNW, their commission is 30%, plus 70% British pound to Canadian dollar, plus upwards of 15% for Customs. I would pay $13,000 Canadian for a 6,000 British pound bid item. Sad.
Let's see what DNW adds to their August pile come Monday.
Cheers,
Bill |

| On a personal note, I am saddened to read of this auction, as it means an old friend has passed without my knowledge.
I first met Jack Webb back in the mid-1970’s in his shop in Islington. It was something akin to Dickens’ Old Curiosity Shop, with all sorts of delights hidden in every nook and cranny.
Jack was a character with a story for every occasion. He had been captured whilst serving with the 43rd Wessex Division in the Normandy campaign. He was forced-marched to a Stalag near to the German/Polish border. After the war Jack served in the 7th Battalion (Territorial Army) Middlesex Regiment until the 1960’s retiring from The Jolly Diehards with the rank of Company Sergeant-Major.
Jack was a walking, talking museum of the Middlesex Regiment. He was a wit, a raconteur, an author and a true English gentleman.
His house in Highbury would gain its own fame, when it was used in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. Jack took umbrage at the number of fans of the film who chose the recreate the end scene of the film on his doorstep, that he altered the appearance of the entrance in order to confuse them.
So I bid you a belated farewell Jack.

| I notice that thus far, there are two lots of medals to the Webb family. I wonder if they are Jack's dad and uncle.
Jack's shop in the 70s would have been a sight to behold. A different era, much appreciated by my own memories of that time visiting with Ed Denby in Toronto.
Cheers,

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I wish!! - the Wardell medal would be a great one to possess - but I have a couple of casualties now and to be honest its hard to justify that sort of money. To answer a separate point - the casualty medals have dropped slightly in price as there have indeed been a few of them - around £8k after commission seems about where we are at the moment - which is down about a £1k from the peak. Having said that, expect to pay more for 2/24th or colonials etc. The Rorke's Drift medal seems to have a very low estimate compared to where previous have sold.. will be interesting to see where it sells. |
