Lord Chelmsford invaded Zululand without the knowledge of the British Government in the hope that he could Capture Cetshwayo, the Zulu King, before London discovered that hostilities had begun.

Doe’s anyone have a photo, or point me in the direction of a photo of a button that the NMP worn on their tunics during the Zulu war. (Would it have been the General Service Button?

hi john.
Not sure where you can find a picture of their buttons , but almost certainly they wouldnt be wearing the Imperial
General Service Buttons as they were a Colonial Force and no doubt had their own buttons .

hi john.
I have spent a couple of hours on the net but havent located a picture of the NMP Buttons .
I can tell you the tunic had 5 Buttons made of Brass , no mention of any insignia on the button.
I will keep serching . Wink .

Hi chard1879.
I dont think all the Mtd Colonial Units would have had the same buttons , all their Badges were differant so I would assume
the Tunic Buttons would also differ from one unit to another , as usual happy to be corrected . Idea .

Well I did not think this forum was so additive, but I have spent hours looking for an image of this button. Nothing so far.

But I’m celebrating my first argument, 9th July 2010. 11:48 pm. with my missus over my newly found hobby. Idea Shocked scratch :lol!:

Hi john.
I have been informed by a collegue who thinks the NMP Tunic Button had the same mongrame as their
Helmet Plate , I tend to agree , but still havent been able to find a picture of one as yet. Hope this helps .
