John De Courcy, CB (1900), of Kilballyowen, co Limerick, DL., JP, High Sherriff 1914, Lt-Col Connaught Rangers, joined 1878, served in Zulu War, Secocoeni War (severely wounded, despatches), and in S. African War 1899-1901 (despatches), ret 1903, b 1 Nov 1856, educ Windermere College, and RMC Sandhurst, m 4 June 1892, Evelyn Wanda (d .8 Feb 1951), youngest daughter oof Maj-Gen Mattei, CMG, and dsp 30 Aug 1920.

Any Details would be appreciated (severely wounded)

Lt.-Col. John de Courcy O'Grady was born on 1 November 1856. He was the son of William de Courcy O'Grady, The O'Grady and Anna Grogan de Rienzi. He married Evelyn Wanda Mattei, daughter of Maj.-Gen. unknown Mattei, on 4 June 1892. He died on 30 August 1920 at age 63, without issue.
Lt.-Col. John de Courcy O'Grady was educated at Windermere College, England. He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. He fought in the Zulu War. He fought in the Secocoeni War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was severely wounded. He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, where he was mentioned in despatches. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Limerick. He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1900. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Connaught Rangers. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Limerick. He gained the rank of in 1903. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Limerick in 1914.1 He lived at Kilballyowen, County Limerick, Ireland.

He was reported severely wounded at Sekukuni’s kraal on the 28th November 1879.
