Lt. Melvill: Well done, Sir! Did you see that Noggs? Deceived him with the up and took him with the down. Norris-Newman: Well well, this one\'s a grandfather at least. If he\'d been a Zulu in his prime I\'d have given odds against your lancer, Mr.Melvill.

PostSubject: Officer Names that may have been in Zulu Wars, Help Identify!!!!!!!   Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:33 am

Hello, I have came across some documents dated/signed 1871 and do not know if these officers later may have participated in the Zulu wars.
These papers are letter of attorneys sighned by the officers and produced by Vesey Weston Holt.

1. Lieutenant Colonel William Mayne

2. Lieutenant Colonel Richard Roney, Fort Major of Jersey

3. Sydenham Clitherow McGill, a Captain of the late Royal Canadian
Rifle Regiment. ( once gone from there I don't know where he could of ended up)

Each of these officers have no connection other than Vesey Weston Holt

Hopefully one or more had something to do with the Zulu Wars, all papers are dated in 1871, so only a few years previous to the wars.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, so far this forum has been great.
do the members of Victorian Wars Forum know about this forum? I think they compliment each other well.
Cheers, Will.

Thanks for your help, I did not know who they were or their history, only that they were fairly high ranking and they dateda few years pre 1879.
