Occupation: Officer in Army Lt.-Col. Hon. Henry John Lindley Wood graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, He fought in the Ashnati Campaign in 1874.1 He fought in the Cyprus Campaign in 1878. He fought in the Zulu War in 1879. He lived Lieutenant-Colonel. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the West Riding, Yorkshire.

| On his landing at the Cape, June the 23rd, his excellency Lieutenant-General Sir Garnet Wolseley, G. C. M. G, K. C. B., High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief in British South Africa was accompanied by the following officers:- Mr St Leger Herbert, Secretary, Lieutenant-Colonel Baker Russell, C. B., 13th Hussars, Lieutenant-Colonel Brackenbury, R. A., Major Webber, R. E., Major the Hon Wood, 12th Lancers, Captains Bushman, 9th Lancers, Yeatman Biggs, R. A., Paterson, 16th Regiment, Maurice, R. A., Braithwaite, 71st Regiment, Doyle, 2nd Dragoon Guards, Lieutenant Creagh, R. A., Dr W Howard Russell, Brevet-Colonel Pomeroy Colley (2nd Queen’s Royals), C. B., Chief of the Staff, Brevet-Major H McCalmont, 7th Hussars, Captain Lord Gifford, V. C., 57th Regiment, Lieutenant Braithwaite and Lieutenant Creagh aides-de-camp. Leaving Capetown by the C. R. M. S. ‘Dunkeld’ on the 24th, Sir Garnet landed at Durban on the 27th, and proceeded at once to Pietermaritzburg. Source No 7 (p 225)
In 1884 he was on Half Pay on the Reserve of Officers list, having already retired. Ashanti War - 1873-4 - Battles of Amoaful and Ordahsu. Brought home Despatches, Despatches, London Gazette, 6th, 7th, and 17th May 1874. Medal with Clasp. Promoted Captain and Brevet-Major. South African War - 1879-80 - Zulu Campaign. Lt.-Col. Hon. Henry John Lindley Wood was born on 12th January 1843. He was the son of Charles Wood, 1st Viscount Halifax of Monk Bretton and Lady Mary Grey. He married Laura Adeline Thellusson, daughter of Ernest Thellusson and Emily (?), on 2nd March 1897. He died on 5th January 1903 at age 59. He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the West Riding, Yorkshire.
30th August 1864: Cornet 10th Hussars, Henry John Lindley Wood, Gent.,to be Cornet, by purchase, vice John Cecil Russell, promoted.
28th May 1870: Hon. Henry John Lindley Wood, Aid de Camp to Sir Garnet Wolseley, Cornet the Honourable Henry John Lindley Wood to be Lieutenant, by purchase, vice Russell. Dated 28th May, 1870

8th June 1877: FRIDAY, JUNE 8, 1877- 12th Lancers, Captain and Brevet Major the Honourable Henry John Lindley Wood to be Supernumerary, on being appointed Adjutant, Oxford Yeomanry Cavalry.
23rd October 1878: He fought in the Cyprus Campaign. Major the Honourable H. J. L. Wood, appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant- General on the Staff of the Lieutenant-General Commanding. the Troops at Cyprus.
1879: He took part in the Zulu War
25th February 1880: THE LONDON GAZETTE, FEBRUARY 24, 1880 12th Lancers, Captain and Brevet Major the Honourable Henry John Lindley Wood retires on half-pay.
25th February 1883: Captain and Brevet Major the Honourable H. J. L. Wood, half-pay, has been placed on retired pay, with the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
28th February 1899: Commission signed by the Lord Lieutenant of the .West Biding of the County of York, and of the City and County of the City of York. The Honourable Henry John Lindley "Wood to be Deputy Lieutenant.
5th January1903, he died at the age of 59
