I think the pic with O'Toole and Elliot was probably the latter's idea. He had a good sense of humor. I love the Zulu in the background, though. The expression on his face clearly says "Quit goofing around, movie stars."

However, they were probably indulging in these hijinx so as to help foster an on-screen camaraderie that the script indicated. A cast member from the film "Gettysburg" whom I had the privilege to interview told me he and the other pincipal cast members portraying Confederates would hang out in costume (and sometimes in character) at a tavern in Gettysburg during breaks in filming. I don't doubt O'Toole and Elliot were doing the same.
