No disrespect to the brave soldier above, or his descendants intended so hopefully none will be taken. Hope this will not be taken to be in bad taste.
We all appreciate, admire and are fascinated by the courage of all the men, whether we are professional military historians, ex military, medal collectors or all 3.
In the world of medal collecting, where a commercial price for a medal is determined, one way or another when a medal comes up for sale. Therefore, I would like to kick off a theoretical auction for the above soldier's medal, knowing what we currently know about him, imagining it coming up for sale in an auction house. (Assume you will be charged a buyer's premium of 20%, on top of your winning bid; assume investment money were not an issue).

My bid - £2100

Based on what the discussion has brought to light regarding 259 Private Jenkins. (Was he or wasn't he a defender at Rorke'sDrift) I would want to see the Bible with 259 Private Jenkins name inscribed inside. The one shown in the Discussion show Samuel Pitt. There is no mention of prisoners being brought back to the rear. So it’s inconclusive.

Therefore my bid would be £885.00

Well. We have been informed that some relevant information to Jenkins based on research will be available in the future, this tells me that whoever has done the research must have see something that putts Jenkins at R.D.

Quote:

This is true. And Jenkins’s only reason for being at R.D would have been based on him being part of the prisoner’s escort. Now did he and other go to Isandlwana to collect the prisoners? And leave shortly before the attack returning to R.D. We don’t know if the prisoners were Zulu, Colonial or British? If so what happen to the prisoners that were being escorted back to the rear.

Corporal Bassage Most every man had his internals let out and privates cut off some their hands and feet tied together Could theses have been the prisoners in-question. Tied and bound before the Zulu Attacked.

All a mystery. My Bid would be £3250.00
