| littlehand,
This is one Marine Officer I have never heard of before. Was his service in the Zulu War while he was a marine, or afterwards?
I have what I believe to be an accurate list of officers who served with the Marine Battalion that arrived just as the war was ending; and he is not on that list.

| littlehand,
I believe your “Robert Walker” was actually “Robert Walker Heathcote” who was born in 1847, and attained the rank of Major in the Royal Marine Light Infantry. In 1879 he was a Lieutenant who “served in the Battalion of Royal Marines sent to South Africa for special service in the Zulu War.” The Battalion left England in June, 1879 on HMS Jumna and arrived at the Cape in July where they were halted, and then sent back to England without taking part in the war. He was not entitled to the South Africa Medal.
