The film "Zulu"

Hi all, my first post here. I just watched the film „Zulu“, again. What I would like to know is
was the relationship between Chard and Bromhead based on reality. Is it on record that
Bromhead was difficult, because 1) Chard had seniority and therefore command and
2)Chard was Royal Engineers and not Army

1) Chard was put in command by Major Spalding, who has you know left Rorke's Drift to hurry up the reinforcements.

2)

2) Both officers held the Queens Commission.
