Hi Sommy / chris. All Colonial records from the zulu war of 1879 were pulped in England in 1915 . So basically no hope of researching those two. I will look through ' For God , Queen & Colony ' by Terry Sole to see if anything is mentioned on Hambly , I do remember seeing his medals for sale I think it was on ebay ?. I thought about bidding but it was expensive if I'm not mistaken ?. I'm not home tonight so will check my books tomorrow . Sorry , I cant help you at all with Newton . Someone on here maybe able to help you out . I will see if I have anything on Johnson 1 / 24th and if so will post it tomorrow . I will also give you the chap who did my research and I also have another chap who has come highly recommended . cheers 90th.

Hi 90th, Yes I did buy the two medals of Hambly they where a bit expensive but I figure they where a bit unusual and out of the normal, so should hold there value at least I hope so, they where set up on a display board and very professedly done somebody at sometime had time for them, Those researchers you are talking about may do me some good no harm in trying, thanks sommmy

Hi Sommy . I dont think you will have any problem with any of the Medals as they will go up in value , they have never decreased in value since I've been interested in them in the last 5 to 6 yrs . From ' For God , Queen and Colony ' by Terry Sole . Trooper 149 , R. Hambly . Frontier Light Horse , Date of Enrolment 26 / 6 / 78 , Date of Discharge 15 / 6 / 79 , engagements B , C. B ( Those Marked '' B '' were engaged against the Zulus in 1879 , C ( Those marked '' C '' were engaged against Sekukuni . Hambly's Christian name was Richard . From ' The Noble 24th ' by Norman Holme. Johnston , W . 1834 Pvt , Transferred to 1 / 11 Regt , South Africa Medal with Clasp 1879 . This is the chap I used to do my Medal Research , he also deals in them . [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]This other chap was recommended to me from another forum member . [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]hope this helps . cheers 90th.
