Hello

There are so many who know so much about the Zulu wars on this forum...

That could tell me in what regiment belonged Zabanga and Longalabalele , the two brave Zulu warriors who saved the French Republic by killing Bonaparte ...

Cheers

George Reiger in Bird's Best-Kept Secret: Shotgun Safari, said that the mother of Bonaparte met Zabanga the brave Zulu warrior's' Mbonambi regiment has definitely cleared the French Republic of the Bonapartist threat by killing his son?

I thought the Zulu hero was killed in Ulundi ...
Who knows the fate of Zabanga ?
I find this story incredible !

Cheers

Hi 90th and Pascal,

I can confirm that Princess Eugenie, ex Empress of the French and the Zulu warrior Zabanga, her son's killer, did meet.

Fynn's Police brought him to the Princess's encampment at Robson's Drift during the French Royal tour of Natal in 1880. At this stage of the tour they had already started their return to Pietemaritzburg. The meeting which was arranged at the behest of the Princess, and the specific purpose was to question Zabanga on how Napoleon died.

Eugenie asked him, Zabanga, to describe in detail to her how her son died. He told her, through an interpreter how it happened. She also instructed that Zabanga was not be punished for his act. Lance Cpl Clarke was witness to these proceedings

The details of the incident in which Prince Louis Napoleon was killed is as follows ;

The Prince Napoleon mounted on a large 16 hand English charger which was very skittish. When the Zulus appeared and were about to attack Napoleon's party at the Ityotyosi River, the horse caught fright and Napoleon fell off. Zabanga was passing, pursuing Napoleon's escort of British troopers with a view to killing them when he saw that Napoleon had merely fallen from his mount, so he turned on him and dealt him fatal stabs with his assegai, the coup de gras. However, after falling off his horse, Napoleon had alreadydrawn his revolver and fired a number of shots at the enemy, before himself succumbing to his wounds.

FOR YOUR WORK GUYS

So it is Zabanga that killed Bonaparte ...

It's amazing how there are diametrically opposing views on the Zulu War ...
This is another interest of this forum.Pour those who will ask why we spend so much time on it ...

He has earned its weight in French military medal!

I hope he has lived very old and quiet, without suffering too much of all that there was conflict in Zululand until 1906 .. And I am very sorry for Longalabalele...

As for the so-called Empress, the mother of bonaparte, he would have wanted that what it takes to Zabanga!

Zabanga could not say anything but what he was saying was Eugenie Bonaparte died as anyone in this situation, there was no escape ...

But it's not a big loss for France since Napoleon have always taken power by force and ravaged much of Europe and Napoleon III was better prepared the French army, not of defeat in 1870, so no war of 14-18, so no second world war ...

Think of the suffering of all the sufferings of the European direct and indirect for many other people because of Bonaparte, think of all the poor young British soldiers killed, maimed, bruised, shocked, traumatized ect ... in France in the twentieth indirectly because of Bonaparte familly ...

Next year on this forum ,the JULY 4 ,2012, for me a moment of silence for this great hero, Zabanga ...

Cheers

Pascal

But Pascal, don't blame the son for the sins of the father, or great-uncle. Who knows what the young Prince Imperial, had he lived, might have done for France? Not all Bonapartes were autocrats. Look at Louis. Almost enlightened in Holland! Look at Lucien. A scholar! Look at Pauline. A pussy cat!

Many years ago I wrote an article about the Zulu regiments at Isandhlwana and the number of companies in each. I won the Browne Medal for Original Historical research for it. It is not in a computer file but on paper. However I shall be transcribing it on to a file for publication in 2012. I'll be happy to send it to you. Soyez patient! Hi Pascal,

Zabanga did not die at Ulundi because the meeting that he had with Princess Eugenie, and witnessed by Lance Corp Clarke NMP, was when the French Royal Tour was at Robsons Drift , mid 1880, on the way back to Pietermaritzburg, and that event post dated the battle of Ulundi.

Pascal you will have to be patient. This week my printer finally met its Waterloo (or, if you prefer, its Ityotyosi) and gave up the ghost. I am waiting to buy a new one in the New Year Sales (it's an English tradition to have a big sale from 1st January) when I hope to get a bargain from PC World. I'll send you a copy after that.
