"Daniel Reilly was born in the parish of St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh and attested for the 61st Brigade on 6 Jul 1878, aged 18. He served in South Africa from 22 Feb 1879 to 4 Jan 1882 and was present for the end of the Zulu Campaign, 1879, and served through the First Boer War, 1880-81. Reilly subsequently served in the East Indies prior to discharge at home on 30 Sept 1890."
