| "An officer in advance from Chelmsford's force gave this eyewitness account of the final stage of the battle at about 3:00pm.
"In a few seconds we distinctly saw the guns fired again, one after the other, sharp. This was done several times -a pause, and then a flash – flash! The sun was shining on the camp at the time, and then the camp looked dark, just as if a shadow was passing over it. The guns did not fire after that, and in a few minutes all the tents had disappeared." |

| Hi 24th . The only officer that I know who witnessed the demise of the camp and stated as such was Hamilton Browne , no doubt there were other officers with him who also witnessed the event , but off hand , I dont know if they left a known report . Possibly Harness also left a report as he was heading to the camp until Cleary I think it was caught him up and said C'ford had ordered him to return back to Mangeni I think it was . cheers 90th. . |

I believe the Mansle incedant is covered in Zulu Victory or HCMDB
It might have something to do with Shepstone ?

| Hi 90th, Correct , Mansel was with Chelmsford and did not return to the camp until much later when the column returned with fixed bayonets and to spend the night there. Interestingly, at that time some tents were still standing as some of the NMP column members slept in them, or the remains of them. I seem to think that Harness was possibly the officer who brought the report back.
regards
