Just as an update, Kris Wheatley's recent research into Pte. David Lloyd has identified that he was in fact buried in Aberdare New cemetery (Plot Y14/3) rather than Cefn cemetery in Merthyr Tydfil.

See below a transcription of his Death Notice:

‘Aberdare Leader’ published 26th February 1916.

Death of an Aberdare Army Veteran.

Pte. David Lloyd, 4 Dare St,
Aberdare, passed away on Monday
Feb. 15th at the age of 6(?). Deceased
was a veteran campaigner, having
served in the S.W.B. in the Zulu
War. He was present at Rorke’s Drift
and was one of the last survivors
of that memorable engagement. He
was a native of Aberdare, and on his
retirement from the Army came to re-
side here. The interment took place on
Saturday at the Aberdare Cemetery.
Among the mourners were Thomas
Lloyd and Pte Rees Lloyd, 3rd Welsh
who is on active service, sons, and
Daniel Lloyd, brother. Mr. A. Ivett,
missioner, officiated. He leaves a
widow.

Regards,

Tim
