| A rare medal to the grenadier guards was sold by Jonathon Collins - details are still on the site www.jcollinsmedals.co.uk You have to move quick - according to the wonderful Susan Collins this medal had only been on the site a matter of hours before being sold. They also had a Sags 1879 to Trooper G W Jones Natal Mounted Police who was with Dartnell at Isandlwana. Sorry, but that has also gone Like i said you have to move quick. Cheers Sergio |

| 2 great medals there SD. The one to the Grenadiers would certainly have been snapped up delightedly by a collector of medals to the Guards - very rare indeed only 14 to the unit, I think they could have asked a lot more for this one. The one to the NMP - how could we know for sure if he was with Dartnell? He may well have been, but can we be sure? |

| Hi Jager1 . I thought the Jones Medal was a bit high , I'm looking for a NMP or some sort of Colonial Medal but need to have some detail on the recipient , but I tend to think the price may be to high at this stage . Cheers 90th. |

| I've got examples to all the Colonial units who were in Chelmsford and Pearsons column bar Stanger Mtd Rifles and oddly the NMP, I say oddly as their were far more medals to them issued but personally I'd like one that served in the 1st Boer War also.
As to finding info on the man 90th,you've a fair chance of finding a little on most Colonials who served in Volunteer units and the NMP you have enlistment, discharge and where they were from.

| I have taken more of an interest in Colonial medals over the last couple of years - whilst there arent service papers available - I have been able to source a lot of information on the actual activities of the units - particularly the local press which makes something like the Red Book really useful. Also Terry Sole's For God, Queen.and Colony - is an essential first stop source for any collector of Colonial medals.
Having said that I was gutted to miss the Panter medal - I shall add it to the Bakers Horse medal that Jager sold recently as medals missed that I really wanted. Still no doubt they will come around again at some point.
As for the NMP and Dartnell - it is really a process of elimination -the roll actually shows who went into Zululand with LC's coloumn and who died and escaped from Isandlwana - it is fairly safe to assume that if he is on the first roll but not listed as dead or escaped that the recipient was with Dartnell.
Cheers
Sergio

| "Pte. G. Panter on Forsyth medal roll being one of only 16 members of the Grenadier Guards who received the South African General Service Medal for the Zulu War. The medal is unresearched. However, an internet search indicates that all seven Grenadier Guards officers listed on Forsyth’s medal roll accompanied various drafts sent out to South Africa after the setback of Isandhlwana." |
