Born in Wolverhampton in 1858, Trade as a puddler (making iron or steel) He enlisted in the 19th Bde on the 27th June 1876 to the 80th Regt.
Sent to S.A. in February 1878 & returned to England 1881 - Army reserves.
Recalled to the South Staffs & serving in the Egyptian Campaign (Medal 31/7/1882 - 28/12/1882.
Again to reserves 22/2/1883
Discharged on the 28/6/1888 at Lichfield.
Resided at Chapel Street, Manchester. Salute

From ' A Staffordshire Regt In The Zulu & Sekukuni Campaigns 1878-1879 ' By Robert Hope .
Born Parish St Mary's , Wolverhampton , Staffordshire . Enlisted at Wolverhampton 29 / 6 / 76 ; Age 18yrs 5 Mths , Joined Regt
at Sth Africa 2 / 2 / 78 , Eyes Blue , Hair Brown , Complexion Sallow , Ht 5ft 6 3/4 Inches , Trade Puddler ( What is that ? ) . Transf
to Army Reserve 30 / 8 /81 . I noticed there was a Corp George Brew 762 80th Regt ! .

In charge of this furnace was the ' Puddler ', a highly skilled and dangerous occupation which required physical strength, stamina and sustained concentration.
