| I've been reading through 'Lord Chelmsford's Zululand Campaign 1878-1879' by Army Records Society, and I noticed the mentioning of Sir Henry Bulwer....
Some 200 years earlier, one of my Very Distant Cousins - Bridget Mostyn - married Lytton-Lytton
The Bulwers and the Lyttons later became Bulwer-Lytton, so, just as Baron Lloyd-Mostyn is related to me (however distantly, as we share a common Ancestor), I'm wondering if this Sir Henry Bulwer might also be so?
Was he just known as Sir Henry Bulwer, or was he at some stage also known as Bulwer-Lytton? |

| Capt Mostyn, Sir Henry Ernest Gascoigne Bulwer was a brother of Lord Edward Lytton of Crabbet Park (nr Worth). Edward Lyttons son Robert was Henry's nephew and was the English poet/ author who wrote under the pseudenym "Owen Meredeth" . Robert married quite late in life. However his mother , an author in her own right and Edward's estranged wife, was born Edwina Wheeler who also descended from a line of Irish authors, the Wheelers. Sir Henry bred Arab horses as a hobby on his estate up at Knebworth, near Sevenage. His brother also ran an Arab stud down at Crabbet Park. I have so far been unable to pick up when Edward dropped the Lytton part of his name as he was certainly known as Sir Henry Bulwer in Natal, and a small town there in the Drakensberg foothills was named after him, ie Bulwer, near Underberg. Sir Henry was well liked in Natal and was of course the Governor General of Natal in the Zulu war period. He died in Norwich in 1914.
regards
