Hi all

It seems that in 1879, the Pedi warriors had in majoritée of firearms ...

They had at that time, definitely abandoned their spears and shields?

But what types of spears and shields were they?

And tactically, they fight Still in defensive, protected, with their rifles as most foot Sotho warriors ...?

Cheers

My first question:

Response of a connoisseur:

But what types of spears and shields were they?

Like the zulus ?

Response of a connoisseur:

Actually by this time even the Zulu has a substantial number of firearms. The numbers of Pedi with firearms was relatively small the key is more to do with their adoption of mounted mobile forces like the Boers.

The Pedi shields may follow the same pattern as other Sotho tribes. These are smaller shields (approx. 40cm high and wide). In the shape of an animal. It seems the shields are made from small buck and the shield has an unsual shape.

Cheers

Pascal
