Hi all

I know that the facing colours of the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment of foot were green, but there seems to be many variations of the actual shade of green that was worn. For instance, I have seen pictures of some re-enactors that appear to be wearing differing shades of green. I have seen pictures of the tunics that are made by tailors for sale to collectors or re-enactors, that also appear to differ, and have read different accounts that the colour was any of the following, bottle green, grass green, forest green, medium green, jade green, dark green, even emerald green, does anyone know the real shade of green that the regiments facing colours were?

Regards

Martin.

I would say a medium green. Jade is too light, but that kind of tone.

Dont forget that back then, this would have been liable to fade, as did the tunics.

Hi tasker

Thanks for that, and yes, you are right, the colours would fade over time.

The most mentioned green appears to be grass green, so I suppose that is a sort of medium green,
not too light and not too dark.

Regards

Martin.

Hi 90th

Thanks for having a look through the books, much appreciated.

In the books that I have it just states green, but I have read some snippets of descriptions online
and there are many greens stated, two or three stating grass green, so I should imagine that
tasker could be right with medium green. The problem is, that on some pictures I have seen, some
greens look very dark, while others look much lighter, and again tasker could be right in saying that
the colours fade, but these variations in colour are on new tunics made for collectors and re-enactors,
so maybe the tailors themselves don't know the real shade of green that was used for the facings.

Thanks again mate.

Regards

Martin.

Grass green, medium green is about right, but not a very helpful description.

All I can suggest now, is that you go to the regimental museum in Brecon. Here you will see tunics and can see the green, the red and and the whole thing for yourself with your own eyes. it is the only way!

Thanks tasker

I did find a few references to grass green, so that is about a medium green I should think.

Yes, I would like to visit the museum, I will have to plan a visit one day.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
