Lt. Melvill: Well done, Sir! Did you see that Noggs? Deceived him with the up and took him with the down. Norris-Newman: Well well, this one's a grandfather at least. If he'd been a Zulu in his prime I'd have given odds against your lancer, Mr.Melvill.

Nigel Davenport's great uncle - Maj Matthew Meiklejohn served in the Gordon Highlanders and at Elandslaagte on 21 October 1899 was awarded the VC. Elandslaagte on the road between Ladysmith and Dundee is not too far away from Isandlwana in KZN.

I like his encounter with Bloomfield near the river, in Zulu Dawn.
Another sad lost.

I thought he was very good in Play Dirty alongside Michael Caine who reprised his Bromhead accent.

A sad loss.
