Lt. Melvill: Well done, Sir! Did you see that Noggs? Deceived him with the up and took him with the down. Norris-Newman: Well well, this one\'s a grandfather at least. If he\'d been a Zulu in his prime I\'d have given odds against your lancer, Mr.Melvill.

PostSubject: Matthew William Gossett - Previous Staff Appointments?   Sun Nov 17, 2013 8:50 pm

Has anyone got any information whether Matthew Gossett held any previous staff appointments during his earlier service in India?

Thanks in anticipation,

JY

Thanks Ray, I had seen that.

I looking at the period after the Indian Mutiny up until the mid-1860's, to establish whether he was on the Staff of a local Brigadier.

24th,

No it jumps from Indian Mutiny with his regiment, the 54th, to being an aide-de-camp with Thesiger in the 9th Cape Frontier War.

Kenny has sent me something he discovered in The London Gazette, which I think holds the answer, but requires further research.

Here's why I was asking:

Staff Group India, late 1850's/early 1860's. Lt. M.W. Gosset (spelling according to some sources) on the right.
John Young Collection.
