Like so many other ex-soldiers of the era, died from syphillis at too young an age.

It is interesting that this photograph was taken in the Isle of Wight, when Cpl Roy DCM was part of the 1st Battalion 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment Colour party which visited HM The Queen at Osborne House in July 1880. He is wearing the Home Service uniform of the regiment - however strangely he and 'other ranks' of the party still wore the 1868 Shako plates in their Home Service (blue) helmets- not the correct 1879 helmet plates. The officers in the party wore Helmet plates.
