Lieutenant 2nd Battn. 4th (King's Own) Regiment photographed in Durban

Given the mention elsewhere of Captain H. B. Laurence, I thought I'd throw in this currently unidentified Lieutenant of 2nd/4th Regiment, photographed in full-dress in Durban. Just in case anyone knows his identity.

Hi John.

Can't tell you who this Lieutenant is, but the 4th (King's Own Royal) Regiment is now a part of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border), known as LANCS. The cap badge is the RED ROSE and Crown of the old Queen's Lancashire Regiment, but now surrounded with Laurel leaves, and the collar dogs are the LION OF ENGLAND, which is the Lion of the old 4th (King's Own Royal) Regiment, the motto is now Nec Aspera Terrent, meaning difficulties be damned.

There is a regimental museum in Lancaster, maybe they could help in identifying this soldier.

Shephard served at Helpmekaar, before being invalided down to Cape Town.

Name Lt Col Charles Sinclair Shephard DSO 1931, Weymouth dist.
Birth 1849, Roehampton, Surrey
Death Feb 1931, Weymouth, Dorset
General Lt Col on retirement but re-enlisted in WW1 for 2 years.

In the London Gazette in 1916:

"The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.
Major '(temporary Lieutenant-Colonel)
Charles S. Shephard, D.S.O., (retired pay)
relinquishes his temporary rank on ceasing
to command a Battalion. Dated 17th
December,1915"

Which is correct, in any!
