| So what's your news years resolution. Over the last year we have seen just how short life can be. So for me it's live life to the full every bloody day. don't ask me why, but I feel more effected by the 1stLt passing than any other. Perhaps it's a wake up call. |

| LittleHand I can only agree with the sentiments. My wake up call was a heart attack three years ago, but then after a while it was ignored, till the second one hit. That one had more of effect but again the mind tends to obliterate things after a period of time. The third well documented of last August led to a series of operations and did really cause me to think. I made a resolution last year to get fit ( I now run a half marathon) get healthy, I eat good food but selective, and I do the things Ive waited to do for years, like my frequent visits to the battlefields, the apps, the research. But the most important things are spending more time with my family, and if from my lofty position in life I could give any advice it would be to do that precise thing. Here endeth the lesson for today, now Im of to bed ready for an early flight to Natal. Im taking the laptop so will send some photos from the battlefields............Any Requests??????? |

| Good post LH. A few months ago, just before they set off for their summer hols, in final assembly, I told all the pupils in my school to, "if you get bored during the holidays, find an old or unwell person in your neighbourhood, knock on their door and ask them if there is anything you can do for them, such as wash their car, mow their lawn, do their shopping for them - and remember - to give them back all their change! Just try and do that once, and if you do manage to do that, come back in September, come to my office, come in, sit down and tell me what it felt like." I reckon that before the holidays, very, and I mean VERY few of them had ever done any voluntary work of any kind, ever before. In September, I was over run and overwhelmed by the number of kids who came to my office to see me, or who approached me in the playground at break or lunchtime. Several of them told me that it was the best thing they had ever experienced and got a feeling they had never had before, some have continued to help voluntarily, some are now being paid for it regularly, some now spend much of their free time washing cars in their street and are developing into fledgling entrepreneurs, a small nucleus have started a charities group and are organising/have organised fund raising activities in school and have so far raised over £500 for local charities, in a term. A few claim that it hugely enriched and changed their lives and that their lives are now more "full" or "complete." I am not claiming any credit here, I was just copying an idea from a teacher that once suggested to me and my class many years ago, about the idea of offering one's help to someone who needs it. We all need to find our own ways to live our lives "to the full", so if you are not sure HOW to live life to the full, give it some thought. (At your age, I hope you all do! But it is never too late)! |

| Hmmm, very sobering thought, ones own mortality! very interesting post's..great post kopie very encouraging to hear our young people stand out in that way, good for them, in this time of en- forced austerity, food banks, zero hour contrcts, and worse of all politicians this country needs all its compassion to get through this! and make sure our children's children inherit a world free from war, fear, poverty and hunger. Dont be to afraid of dying to really live! love and peace to every one and a great 2014. |

| Hi all, Firstly I wish all forum members a happy New Year. Secondly to Springbok who is by now sojourning in a hot KZN. If you have the time some pics of Black's sangar on the Natal side of the river below the pump house and Coffin Rock from different angles. This could be a little difficult as the mZinyathi is now in spate.

| Happy New Year every one. Sorry Barry cant get down there, its really bad. Struggled like hell today to get down to the Prince imperials grave. First time in years Ive seen a decent volume of water going over Mangeni and the Buffalo is full on roaring along, its around 900 mm below the bridge. Ive got some interesting shots I will b posting over the next couple of days. Have a Good New Year one and all from The Rorkes Drift Hotel.
Cheers |

| I think it was Oscar Wilde who said, "a New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other." |

| Ummm! Well, saying that Mr Claus didn't bring me the 'Martin's stuff finder' that I asked for, it looks like my new years resolution will have to be to buy some bolts, chains and padlocks and get busy bolting down, chaining and padlocking anything of mine that 'Mrs Shifter' is likely to move to a place where it can't be found without a full house or garden shed search. My next project will then be to get a hand held 'nagging silencer', just point it towards her, press the button and 'zap', silence is golden I wonder if they do 'sleep zappers' as well |

| I must say I shall miss Pascal. Because of the language strictures he often said things straightforwardly in a way that others wouldn't and he often got to the heart of the matter without the need for nuances and euphemisms that the English love to play with. He also came up with quite a few questions that no-one had ever felt the need to ask until they tried to answer them. |
