Chelmsford wasted very little time in establishing his foothold in Zulu land. At 3.30 in the morning a force consisting of 4 companies of the 1/24th , the 1/3rd NNC and a large contingent of mounted men attacked the home of Sirayo, father to Mehlokazulu whos actions in killing his adulterous mother brought down the wrath of the imperial army.

Kwa Sokexe was lightly defended, most of the adult men had left to meet up with the army of Cetshwayo.
The fight was over by 9 oclock and lead to the death of 30 Zulu with 4 wounded and 10 captured. British casualties amounted to 2 NNC dead 1 officer and 1 NCO wounded. And of course severe bruising to both Major Blacks testicles and his pride.
Stock captured: 13 Horses, 413 Cattle, 332 Goats and 235 Sheep.

Springbok,

Don't forget the fifteen wounded Africans of the N.N.C., one of whom would perish at Rorke's Drift in Hook's room of the hospital.

Wasn't this the official reason for invading the sovereign nation of Zululand?
(Like anyone from the Empire gave a flying stuff about Mrs Sihayo)!
