A favour from Curling's letters Empty
PostSubject: A favour from Curling's letters   A favour from Curling's letters EmptyMon Jan 13, 2014 3:39 pm

A favour to ask. I've lent my set of photocopies of Curling's letters to someone. Can someone check for me in the one dated 7th February the wording is in the sentence: “We fortified the stores as well as we could but men sneaked off one by one, that when it was dark, we had but 37 to defend the place.”
A word or phrase is missing such that it reads properly.

7th feb 1879 Helpmaker (sic), Natal to Mama?

"We fortified the stores as well as we could, but men sneaked off one by one that was when it was dark, we had 37 to defend the place"

As from book inquestion!

Thanks but I think it's been miscopied into the book. I had photocopies of Curling's letters from the 1990s and really wanted the original wording. I'll have to wait till I get them back. Thanks anyway.

Lieutenant Curling wrote that: -

That's as I have it as well Julian.

OK thanks both of you. There was an extra comma - that might make a difference!

Actually it's copies of the original I'm after. The book simply has a transcription and I think it might have an erratum in it.

Hi
I've now seen the original page and there was a mistake in the transcription. Can anyone tell me on what page of Best and Greaves's book the Feb 7th letter appears?
