| There used to be a very large collection of Zulu War medals. However when I visited the museum, I was informed, that the collection has been rehoused in the National Army Museum. The items below survived the move! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Dave,
It is by 2nd Lieutenant George Rowley John Evelyn, (1857-1879) 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment (The Buffs). It depicts the Battle of Nyezane, 22nd January 1879.

| It's strange that some museums will allow photography and others won't ! . When I went to the Imperial War Museum in London back in 1982 , I dont think photographing was allowed ? . Does anybody know if it's allowed today ? . 90th |

| Heres a survey of photography policy in UK Museums. Seems over 50% of survey had no problem. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Steve |

| 90th,
I can't help but be on top of things as I pass the IWM to go to work.
The place is being 're-imagined' for 1914 Centenary.

| Not. Great deal, I think, The N.A.M has more. Certainly increased the medal collection, going by Pete's post on Canterbury Museum. |

| Imperial War Museum collection is from World War 1 to date. Nothing Victorian.

| 90th,
Other than John Chard's Victoria Cross, there's Robert Jones' Victoria Cross alongside it. There's a Gonville Bromhead souvenir piece as well those items are in the Ashcroft Gallery. Which also has a small film about Rorke's Drift featuring clips from Zulu.
In the archives at the I.W.M. are documents from Horace Smith-Dorrien and a photograph album belonging to Thomas Snow of the 1st/13th with a number of Zulu War photographs within.

| Oops! But I tend not to count the stuff that belongs to Ashcroft. Presumably Smith-Dorrien's papers are there because of his 20th century service. Nevertheless, they are relevant pieces and I stand corrected.
