Gents, I'm having another senior moment...please can someone remind me what the 'popular' translation is for the cry made by a Zulu as he plunges his iklwa into the body of an enemy?

And, other than "Usuthu!", are there any other appropriate war cries or chants I should be aware of?

Yes, planning another toy soldier game set during the AZW, so no great historical accuracy required, but I do like a degree of realism!

Xhosa, many thanks - That's the translation, but not how I've seen it written before - more like "ishii!" or "nGadla!" maybe?

And, more important, where did you get that great avatar image? I've definitely got a use for that if its available!

Hiya Simon, yes your right, i responded ( usually to
my detriment  Very Happy ) off the cuff, its from the mouth
of the wonderful David Rattray, from his TDOTDM.
so like i said i made the spelling up but that's as
close as i could spell to convey the sound, if that
makes sense..

The image is from a book, which offhand i cannot for
the life of me remember, but i know i have the full
resolution scanned and will let you have it soonest,
as remarked on another thread earlier, its good to
share,                                     cheers Les
