Lt. Melvill: Well done, Sir! Did you see that Noggs? Deceived him with the up and took him with the down. Norris-Newman: Well well, this one\'s a grandfather at least. If he\'d been a Zulu in his prime I\'d have given odds against your lancer, Mr.Melvill.

If I've read his record of service correctly he arrived in Sth Africa well after the battle of Ulundi . August once you factor in the traveling time ! .

Hang on boys, something not quite right here.

The Honourable Edward Cornish Poole ? Regimental Sergeant Major?

His papers say he was a labourer when he enlisted, he was imprisoned for desertion, and he never rose above the rank of Corporal!

Fishy or what?

Steve

Hi Steve

I would go with his service record and not what the article says.

Remember where the article comes from:
The West Australian (Perth, WA : 1879 - 1954), Friday 13 November 1942, page 1 Suspect

The 'From' date is the date he departed UK not the date he arrived in South Africa.
