| Bonsoir Gary,
There is a trooper G.I. COOPER (number 89) on the muster roll recorded at Rorke's drift on the morning after the battles of Isandhlwana and Rorke's Drift. There is also a photo of a group of men from NMP (Princess Eugénie escort / 1880) with a man called "COOPER " and trumpeter STEVENS, a survivor of Isandhlwana.
Text and photo given by forum members Brett Hendey and Barry. See please, the excellent post on this forum: "NMP detail involved with the Princess Eugenie" (thu, janv 12, 2012, 9.23 PM)
Bon voyage en Afrique du Sud.
Cheers.
Frédéric

| Hi Gary. I think that Barry may be able to help you with that one mate. I do know that there was an officer called Cooper in one of the Natal regiments as Barry and I were sharing a discussion on the forum some time back and the name Cooper cropped up. It's a while since the chat, and I can't recall the reason why the name Cooper cropped up, it may well have been because I am called Cooper and Barry might have been researching any Cooper's that fought in the AZW, I just can't remember mate, but Barry may be able to help. Hope you are having a great time pal, I wish I was there with you mate, you lucky so and so |

| Hi Gary, Frederic,
Correct, Tpr Cooper served in the NMP. He was also part of the Princess Eugenie escort during her visit to the AZW battlefield in 1880. I have already posted a picture of the escort party, including Tpr Cooper, some time ago on the forum. I will peruse the Nongqai's to see if there is an obit on him there too.
regards
barry
