| I have been reading up on the ships involved in the AZW, I looked for details on HMS Active but there doesn't appear to be any. I have added the details below in case anyone is interested.
A few additional details about HMS Active.
Type: Corvette: Cruiser 2nd Class ; (Iron, cased with wood) ; Armament 10 Launched : 13 Mar 1869 ; Disposal date or year : 1906 BM: 2322 OM tons ; Displacement: 3078 tons Propulsion: Screw Machinery notes: 2,400 ihp 600 ; Speed ; 15 knots ;
25 Feb 1900 The Active, formerly flagship of the Training Squadron, was to have been refitted for further service, but the Admiralty have now decided not to go on with the work, and the ship will be removed to "Rotten Row" in Portsmouth Harbour until sold out of the Service. Launched at Blackwall in 1869, the Active has seen a great deal of service in her time, although there has been nothing particularly striking about her career. She was an unprotected cruiser, having a displacement of just over 3,000 tons. For some time she was flagship of the Cape Squadron before that station was joined with the West Coast of Africa Station, and the late Admiral Hewitt, while Commodore at the Cape, flew his broad pennant on the Active. After being paid off last, she was stripped, and her next voyage will be to the breakers.

| I am thinking of scratch building a model of HMS Active but I am having difficulty in finding good reference material. I have quite a good selection of Naval books but most of them are about the earlier Ships of the Line. Does anyone know of any images of HMS Active? Any help would be appreciated. |

| As luck would have it, I have managed to buy a copy of a watercolour painting of HMS Active on a postcard. I now have the colour of the rigging, mast and sails. I just need a photograph/drawing of the deck and I'm good to go. |

| The colour picture I ordered of HMS Active arrived in the post today, I have also been sent the measurements for the Beam and Draught
Active was 270ft Long Beam 42ft Draught 21.5 Forward Draught 16.5
I now have to convert these to a scale so that I can start to draw the plans.
I am in desperate need of any pictures of the Deck for those finer details. |
