This series of three photographs was just included in my friend Eric Pradelles' excellent new book "Le Prince Imperial (Napoleon IV) Correspondance Inedite d'un jeune Aigle foudroye." (Isandula Collection) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Thanks--no, the photographs were taken in 1875 at Aldershot on maneuvers. Did you see the wine bottles in the tent? They were having a great time at work!!! It's nice to be the "Prince."

No but I did see the native's face inside the tent at the end of the duel. Looking very bemused, and uninterested. Do you know where the book can be purchaseed, and is it in English or a version in English.

This book is in French. I'll ask the author about plans for an English edition, if any, and where the present edition can be purchased.

Yes, the "mock duel" series is mine, and there is one more of my photographs--another large format at Woolwich 1873-74--the Prince in a large group with his great friend Louis Conneau.

Nice article giving some insight into the Prince's upbringing. No, Louis Conneau, the son of Napoleon III's confidante and doctor, and Conneau, the servant who accompanied the Prince to Zululand are different people. I believe Louis Conneau became a general in the French army. I'll check my photographs and see what I can post.

Here is a photograph of Louis Conneau, the Prince's childhood friend and the son of Dr. Conneau, the confidante and doctor of Napoleon III. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This is the large format of the Prince Imperial at Woolwich in 1873-74 that appears in Eric Pradelles' new book. The Prince's long time friend, Louis Conneau, is one of the cadets atop the artillery piece. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.](Isandula Collection)

This is the death card of Xavier Uhlmann, the Prince's loyal servant who was in Zululand with him. I am thinking that Uhlmann is the fellow in the mock duel photographs acting as the Prince's second. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.](Isandula Collection)
