"Sir Robert William Jackson served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Crimea, from 5th Dec. 1854, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served during the Indian mutiny; in
medical charge of a Battalion at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, present at the battle of Cawnpore on 6th
Dec. 1857, with Outram’s Force at the Alumbagh, assault and capture of Lucknow ; in medical charge of the Camel
Corps at the assault and capture of Calpes ; present at the capture of the Forts of Dehaign and Tyrhool in Oude,
also during the final operations of Jugdespore (Medal with three Clasps). Accompanied Sir Garnet Wolseley to
the Gold Coast in September 1873, and served throughout the Ashanti war of 1873-74, including the action of
Essaman, relief of Abrakrampa, battle of Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie; and was in
medical charge of the ist Field Hospital from its formation to the end of the campaign (mentioned in despatches,
CB., Medal with Clasp). Served in the operations against Sekukuni in 1879 including the storming of the strong-
bold (mentioned in despatches, Medal). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-
el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, KCB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive’s Star).
Deputy Surgeon General J. H. Jeffcoat served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Koorum Field Force, and
was present at the capture of the Pei war Kotal (Medal with Clasp).
Deputy Surgeon General C. M. Jessop served with the Scots Fusilier Guards in the Crimea from June 1855
(Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Was present doing duty with the Royal Artillery at the capture of
Canton on 28th Dec. 1857 (Medal with Clasp)."
Brigade Surgeon B. C. Kerr served in the Kafir war in 1879-80, and was present during the operations against
Sekukuni including the storming of the stronghold (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp)."

He died on the 12th May 1921 in Dublin Eire.

"SIR ROBERT WILLIAM JACKSON, C.B., Deputy Surgeon-General.

SIR ROBERT WILLIAM JACKSON, C.B., died at Sandymount,Dublin, on May 13th, aged 93. He was born at Edenderry,King's County, on August 11th, 1827, and was educated in Dublin. He took the L.R.C.S.I. in 1851, the L.K.Q.C.P. in 1859 and the F.R.C.S.I. in 1862. Entering the army as assistant-surgeon in the 90th Foot (Scottish Rifles) on May 26th, 1854.

He attained the rank of brigade-surgeon on May 5th, 1881, and retired with a step of honorary rank on December 16th, 1882. During the regimental times healso served in the 84th Foot (York. and Lancaster), 86th Foot (Royal Irish Rifles), 100th Foot (Leinster Regiment, Royal Canadians), and for several spells on the staff, and from January, 1862, to January, 1863, was on half pay.

He had a very long record of war service, first, in the Crimea (1854-55), where he was present at the siege and fall of Sevastopol and received the medal with clasp and the Turkish medal. In the Indian Mutiny (1857-1858) he was at the first relief of Lucknow, at the battle of Cawnpur, tlle defence of the Alambagh, the final assault and capture of Lucknow,.the capture of Kalpi and the operations in Oudh; he received the medal with three clasp He served also in the Ashanti war (1873-74),being. present at the action of Essaman and relief of Abrakrampra, the battles of Amoaful and Ordahsu, and the capture of Coomassie.

He was mentioned in dispatches, and was awarded the medal with clasp and the C.B. In South Africa, in 1879, he was present at the operations against Sekukuni, and was again mentioned in dispatches. He was in Egypt in 1882, shared in the battle of Tel-el-Kebir, was mentioned in dispatches, and received the medal with clasp, the Klhedive's bronze star, Medjidie third class and knighthood. After his retirement he settled at Sandymount, near Dublin, where for many years he took great interest in local affairs. In 1860 he married the daughter of Mr. John Jones Simpson, who died in 1888. He married again, in 1891, the daughter of Mr. Robert P. Daye. He had one daughter and three sons, one of whom is Major R. W. H. Jackson, R.A.M.C. (retired)"
