British Infantry Bayonet Scabbard - Coulour Question Empty
PostSubject: British Infantry Bayonet Scabbard - Coulour Question   British Infantry Bayonet Scabbard - Coulour Question EmptyTue Jan 31, 2017 5:05 pm

Almost done painting my 28mm BTD British Infantry, and now have a nagging doubt !

Question - Should the tip of the bayonet scabbard for british infantry be brass or steel ?

The many pictures online are not that clear and I have seen both represented.

Don't ask which colour I went for as I have 50/50 chance on having to repaint a substantial number :)

Thanks all

Depends upon which model of bayonet and also where issued.

PostSubject: Re: British Infantry Bayonet Scabbard - Coulour Question   British Infantry Bayonet Scabbard - Coulour Question EmptyTue Feb 21, 2017 11:19 pm

For the period the converted P53/74 socket bayonet, black leather, brass chape and brass top/mouthpeice, ditto Common long socket (erroneously known as the P76), but most certainly with three brass rivets (not two, they did not appear until late 1878).

For NCO's bushed P56/60 yataghan sword bayonets, black leather, steel chape and tip.
