HELLO.THIS IS MY FIRST POST HERE. CAN SOME ONE HELP PLEASE? IF YOU HAVE A ZULU MEDAL WITH 2/4 FOOT ON DOES THIS MEAN HE WAS IN THE 24 FOOT REG?? AS I HAVE SEEN MEDALS WITH 1 ARE 2/24 ON THE RIM?? THANK YOU JIMBOB

Jimbob,

2/4 - 2nd Battalion of the 4th (The King’s Own Royal) Regiment. The 2nd/4th were used in the main as Lines of Communication troops. Although some members of the battalion supplied replacements to 1st Squadron, Mounted Infantry following iSandlwana.

The three companies of the battalion also fought in the last skirmish of the campaign on Monday, 8th September 1879. When they assaulted the Tafelberg stronghold of the induna Manyonyoba kaMaqondo in the Ntombe valley. During the assault they sustained two casualties, Sergeant-Major E. Smith and Lance Corporal I. Pomfret.
