The seller of this medal lists the recipient as "William Morrison." The medal is engraved as "M. Morrison, Stoker 2nd." There is a “Michael Morrison, Stoker 2nd” listed on the medal roll for HMS Shah.

Michael Morrison was born in Lower Aghada, County Cork, Ireland on 13 November 1855. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1871. He later served as Ordinary 2nd Class aboard HMS Victor Emanuel in 1874 during the Third Ashanti War for which he received the Ashanti Medal without clasp. In 1879 he was a Stoker 2nd Class aboard HMS Shah during the Zulu War for which he received the South Africa Medal without clasp. He next served aboard HMS Sultan as a Stoker during the Egyptian War in 1882 and was awarded the Egypt Medal without clasp and the Khedive's Star. In 1886 he received his Third Good Conduct Badge and should have been awarded the Navy's Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. He transferred to the Coast Guard as a Boatman in 1890 and rose to the rank of Chief Boatman before being "invalided" out of the service in 1898.

Too bad his medals did not remain together.
