| "Private Henry Vaughan, 1st or King’s Dragoon Guards, who saw service during the Zulu War having embarked for South Africa in February 1879, and was most likely present in action at the Battle of Ulundi on 4th July 1879."
"Henry Vaughan was in service as of 1871 as a Private (No.1150) with the 1st or King’s Dragoon Guards. With the outbreak of the Zulu War, Vaughan was then posted with his regiment to South Africa on 27th February 1879, and was likely present with his regiment in action at Ulundi on 4th July 1879. Vaughan was discharged on 23rd February 1883 at the end of his first period of service. Confirmed as his only medal entitlement ?." |

| I think likely present should be read as possibly present , there was only one troop of the 1st KDG's at Ulundi , that being A Troop . JY's book mentions a total of 26 men in all including officers and NCO's , there were 719 Medals and Clasps issued , 6 returned to Woolwich Mint , 641 with the 1879 Clasp , and 78 without , so unless we knew which troop Vaughan was with it's certainly a stretch to assume he was '' Likely Present '' at Ulundi , the KDG's were mostly used as convoy or camp troops from memory , probably more of a chance he was involved looking for Ceteswayo after Ulundi , still hoping one day to come across a roll of the KDG's who were at Ulundi , although knowing A troop was there certainly helps , also hoping to find a Roll of those with Marter whilst looking for the King . 90th |
