Great Grandfather James (Jimmy) Robinson DCM

Good afternoon
My Name is Jo-Anne Sandilands I am writing from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, I am trying to trace any further information you have on my Great Grandfather James (Jimmy) Robinson DCM, you have a lot of information already on your site which we have read with great interest. James's eldest daughter Jennie was my Grandmother and she did not tell us a lot of information about him only that he left Ireland to work in Canada, she and her younger sister Kathleen did not follow him there and from what we can gather they didn't keep in contact. My husband and I were to travel to Vancouver in September last year but due to Covid 19 we were not able to go. I am just wondering if you can point me in some direction as to where we might be able to find out more information on him. Many thanks Jo-Anne Sandilands

Hi Jo-Anne
I’m pretty sure there weren’t any DCM awards to anyone by the name of Robinson in the Anglo-Zulu War so I assume he was awarded it in another conflict. Do you know what regiment he served in?

There is a post on here with a photo of a grave for Capt J Robinson DCM (ex 7th Battalion CEF which I think is a Canadian WW1 unit) who died in 1933. Is that your man?

Jo-Anne - you can probably narrow the search down by using the National Archives catalogue search:

Www.Nationalarchives.gov.UK

Put in HIS name plus distinguished - file reference WO

Another option is the London Gazette which might have the citation for the award

Www.thegazette.co.UK.

You really don’t need us. Although at present the National Archives are closed so getting copies of documents is difficult.
