What is interesting is that the 99th went to Bermuda after the Zulu War, but returned to South Africa to garrison the Cape in the wake of the outbreak of the 1st Boer War.
Yet the soldier in cdv is still wearing his Good Conduct chevron on his right sleeve, so he is complying with the pre-1881 Regulations. I just wonder if he was invalided back to U.K., and was posted to the Depot Company.
