James Ripley and the Prince Imperial Empty
PostSubject: James Ripley and the Prince Imperial   James Ripley and the Prince Imperial EmptyFri Jul 01, 2022 7:21 pm

"We regret to have to announce the death of Mr. James Ripley, eldest son of the late Mr. George Ripley, Clounagh House, Portadown. The deceased, who has been a resident in Natal, South Africa for 33 years, was on a visit to his mother, when he suddenly took ill and passed away after a very short illness, at the age of 61 years. He served as a volunteer throughout the Zulu War, including the battle of Ulundi, and was awarded a medal and clasp, as well as being mentioned in despatches. The deceased was one of the party who recovered and bore from the field the dead body of the Prince Imperial, on the day after his murder by the Zulus."
