"DOCTOR TURNS MINER. TRINITY COLLEGE STUDENT’S STRANGE CAREER. A truth-stranger-than-fiction story is unfolded the death of Mr David Lewis Leigh Rogers, who has been killed by a motorlorry near Treherbert.
Mr Rogers, although a qualified doctor, worked in the colleries in the Upper Rhondda for nearly 20 years. He was native of Llanrwst, North Wales, was educated Trinity College. Dublin, and had obtained the double qualification of M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. After serving as locum tenens in the East end of London, he became a surgeon in the Cape Mounted Rifles and took part in the Zulu war. In his younger days, it is supposed,he was disappointed in love. Mr. Rogers was 64 years of age."
