"WAS IN THE ZULU WAR. A retired engineer, Captain William Henry Pibworth, has died at Portsmouth on his 70th birthday. He was assistant engineer in the Shah during the engagement with the Peruvian rebel turret ship Hauscar off Yeo in 1877, and was in the Zulu War in 1879."

"LATE ENG. CAPT. PIBWORTH. MEMORIES OF H.M.S. SHAH'S DUEL AND THE ZULU WAR. Engineer-captain William Henry Pibworth, who died at Redbridge House. Derby Road. Portsmouth. on Christmas Eve on his 70th birthday, had been on the Retired List since 1907. He was assistant engineer in the Shah during the engagement with the Peruvian rebel turret skip Huascar. off Yjo in May. 1877, and also in the Zulu War in 1879, being awarded the Zulu medal. He reached the rank of Engineer-Commander in April 1898. and was promoted to that of captain on taking up his retirement."

Great picture but such as shame the stone is broken.
I'm just glad a photograph has been taken before it disappears.
