"Merthyr's Crimean Veteran. During the last few years a neat old 'gentleman, not unlike in appearance the late Lord Roberts, might have been walking the streets of Merthyr with a kindly smile for everybody. This was the oldes' soldier in Wales—Serg. John Lambert, the 6th Warwicks. He was as old Crimean veteran, and had fought in Indian Mutiny and the Zulu War. He passed away on Wednesday in his 86th year fined as the oldest member of the Merthyr Ex-Service Mens Club. and was very popular amongst "the boys," who will sadly miss his genial presence. 'The funeral takes place on Monday next at a quarter past two, and every effort is being made to make a military ceremony. All ex-service men and present Territorials are requested to attend. Segt:Major Laverock is to be approached with regard to the Municipal Band, and it is to be hoped all honour will be done to this splendid type of old soldier. The funeral will start from deceased home, Behbesda-street. at 2.15 prompt."
