As a Boy 1st Class Sidney Wise remained aboard HMS Boadicea during the Zulu War and did not go ashore with the Naval Brigade. In 1881, as an Able Seaman, he did serve ashore with the Naval Brigade from "Boadicea" for the 1st Boer War.
