I can't find a John Gilbert in the 38th or the 80th AZW medal rolls

Hi All,
No Military Records, John Gilbert born 1846/47 Littlehampton, Sussex. 1861 census at Fathers Chichester. 1901 census Littlehampton married to Ellen he Labourer and Army Pensioner, [two of his Brothers Harry b.1859 and William b.1860 both Army Pensioners, were living with him]. 1911 census Littlehampton he is still a Labourer. The Death was Registered in East Preston District Sussex, this includes Littlehampton.
